Connection problems

It seems that our upstream bandwidth supplies has finally fixed their problems. We just wanted to let our users know what was happening. Have a nice time on ArtGrounds tonight! :-)

New Banner?

Does anyone feel that perhaps a new site banner is a good idea? I'm not much of a designer myself but I'd be interested in some new banners. Does anyone feel up for the challenge?

Additional information can be found on the forums under [CONTEST] Design AG's Banner!.

DJ flags

I have revoked the DJ privileges for everyone, because I'd like all DJs to go thru a screening process. People who have received DJ privileges in the past, please fill out the form in the previous blog post and send it to me as a private message in the forum. For those of you who are new to the forum: log in with your regular AG username and password.

DJ application form

The following questions should be answered and sent to me in order to apply for DJ privileges:

Why do you want to be an ArtGrounds DJ?:

What distinguishes you from other DJs?:

Review the broadcast schedule. When would your show be on?:

Are you familiar with the required software?:

Do you have a microphone or a headset...?:

...that doesn't make you sound like crap?:

What will your show be about?:

Could you make an entertaining show without music?:

Do you have an Internet upload speed of at least 160 kbit/s?:

What is the title of your show?

Log into the forum, and send your answers as a private message to me. I will process the application, and get back to you in a short time. Good luck!

Registration bot

We were just attacked by a registration bot. All the fake accounts have been deleted. The attack came from a single Comcast address, and it has been reported to abuse@comcast.net. I hope the hacker was an idiot, that his Internet access is about to get cut off, and that he didn't simply use a random Comcast customer's computer as the proxy for his attack.

Voice Chat & Layer Permissions

As of yesterday, voice chat is part of Sketcher's user interface. Volume bars next to each user name indicate whether or not they are engaged in voice chat. Voice chat is activated by ticking off Voice in the Options menu.

Layer permissions have been changed. Only admins can add or delete layers from now on!

Drag Physics

I have introduced physics (acceleration, damping, inertia and friction) to the dragging code. Should make dragging look and feel a lot nicer.

Permanent Settings & More

All settings, panel arrangements and brushes are now saved permanently on exit, and also every 60 seconds, in case of a crash. For this to work, you must give Sketcher disk access. If you can already save the canvas, you are good to go. Sketcher can be reset to factory settings via the Options -> Reset item in the menu bar. Other new options include Sounds on/off, Tags on/off and Voice on/off. Enjoy!

New features in Sketcher

I have added 2 new features to Sketcher for convenience.

Tool panels are now open one at a time. Clicking one panel will close all other panels, to save on screen space and user effort. A pin button has been added to each panel, to lock panels in their current state (open or closed), independently of other panels. This hybrid approach should be a good compromise between tabs, for those who have small screens, and panels, for those who have large ones.

Drag scrolling is now implemented. Hold down the Space bar to use it. NOTE: Sketcher can't tell if you wish to enter a whitespace in the chat box, or if you wish to scroll the canvas, so you must click the canvas before you hit the Space bar!

UPDATE: I have added a small menu bar above the Canvas panel. The Save button has been replaced by a "Save As..." item in the File menu.
